Alvin R. Hawes, age 73, of Columbia Ave., Greenville, passed away Tuesday morning October 3, 2017 in his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Jefferson, OH on July 28, 1944 to August and Mary Ellen (Brown) Hawes. Alvin retired from the Maintenance Department of the former R.D. Werner Co., where he had been employed nearly thirty years. He had previously been employed as a Police Officer with Salsbury Twp., Summit Twp. and Jackson Center Police Departments.

Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at Bear Camp. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.

On May 27, 1963 he married the former Patricia Teter, she survives at home. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Tonya King and her husband Bryan and Josie Smith, all of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter; Lisa Ann Hawes.

A private family funeral service will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville. There will be no public calling hours. Burial will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery.
