Charles Russell Garrett, age 83 of Greenville, passed away Thursday morning, September 27, 2018.

He was born in West Middlesex on August 5, 1935 to Russell L. and Aldene M. (Hawk) Garrett. He married the former Shirley Mae Bartholomew on June 14, 1957 at Unity Presbyterian Church of Greenfield, she survives at home. Chuck was a 1953 graduate of West Middlesex High School and a 1957 graduate of Westminster College where he participated in basketball, cross country, and golf.

He earned a master's degree from Westminster in guidance in 1966. He began his teaching career at Fredonia-Delaware High School in the fall of 1957. Chuck taught American History and driver's education and was the baseball coach and the assistant basketball coach for three years. When the Reynolds Junior/Senior High School opened in the fall of 1960 which included the borough of Fredonia and Delaware Townships, Chuck was on the faculty of the new high school from 1960-1973 teaching Pennsylvania History and was the junior high guidence counselor, he had also coached basketball intermittently during those years.

In the fall of 1973 he joined the Jamestown faculty as the Jr.- Sr. High guidence counselor. He coached baseball and boys and girls basketball at various times during his twenty-three years there, retiring in 1996. Chuck was inducted into the Mercer County Hall of Fame in 1990 and the West Middlesex Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where he served as an Elder and was an Adult Sunday School teacher for many years as well as being active with the flower and visitation committees.

During his retirement he enjoyed attending athletic events, band and choral concerts, and musical theater in which his grandchildren particitaped as well as golfing and spending the winter month in Florida.

He is survived by four children; Cindy Lee Blaschak and her husband Matthew of Greenville, Cheri Lynn Difford and her husband Brian of Englewood, Florida, Chris Russell Garrett and his wife Pamela of Aurora, Ohio and Charlene Ann Campbell and her husband Scott of Cedarville, Ohio; nine grandchildren; Allyson Blaschak, Tyler Blaschak, Garrett Blaschak, Scott Difford, Taylor Garrett, Robert Garrett, Keely Campbell, Kelsey Campbell and Kyra Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Cassandra Lee Blashchak and a brother, Louis Garrett.

    My sympathy to the entire Garrett family. Chuck’s guidance helped mold me as a teacher, coach and person. Our many talks in school, in the gym and on the golf course are still ingrained in my mind. He will be sadly missed but his memories will remain. Rest in peace Chuck.
