Earl V. “Vin” Thompson, age 100, of Scipio St., Jamestown, passed away Monday morning, April 1, 2019 in St. Paul's Senior Living Community.

He was born in Teepleville, PA on May 12, 1918 son of Rev. Earl D. and Alta S. (Smith) Thompson.  He was a 1936 graduate of Volant High School and served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he was of the 101^st Infantry, 26^th division, 3^rd Army, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was proud to have participated in the relief of the Siege of Bastogne. On September 3, 1942 Vin married the former Ethel M. “Phoebe” Randall, she passed away September 7, 2011. Vin was the caretaker of Lucy Rodger's estate in Jamestown for many years and formerly was employed at Al Drake Construction and Nelson's Flower Shop in Mercer.

Vin was a member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church and Jamestown VFW Post # 5424. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking care of his yard especially cutting his grass and walking downtown Jimtown everyday making several stops to visit especially at McClintocks Barber Shop.

He is survived by a son; Paul J. Thompson and his wife Jeri of Jamestown, four grandchildren; Chris Martin and his wife Jacquie of Carlisle, PA, Michael Martin and his wife Michelle of Wilmington, DE, Sara Saylor and her husband Jason of Greenville, and Paul “Vinnie” Thompson of Jamestown, four great grandchildren; Samantha Martin, Carter Martin, Chloe Saylor, and Lexi Saylor, two sister in laws; Mary Thompson of Mercer and Sandy Randall of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Betty Lou Martin, a son in law, Ray Martin, and three brothers, Paul Thompson, Raymond Thompson, and Joseph Thompson.
