Martha L. Loreno, age 93, of South Main St., Greenville, passed away on December 5, 2018, surrounded by her family in Sharon Regional Medical Center. She left an extensive legacy of family and friendships to cherish her warmth, her generosity, and her humility.
Born in Greenville on February 23, 1925, to Floyd and Ann Eliza (Brown) Mohr, Martha attended Hempfield Elementary School and graduated from Penn High in 1942. After graduation she worked for the school principal, then for Chase Laundry. Throughout her life she was instrumental in organizing class of '42 reunions and keeping the class roster. In 1973 she was appointed as the Registrar of Vital Statistics for the Greenville area and served almost 40 years.
In 1943 she married Edward Loreno and had recently celebrated 75 years of marriage. She became an expert in her mother-in-law's Italian recipes and kept records on cooking and baking for large parties and reunions. As late as 2017 she hosted her extended family for the annual "Cookie Day" to decorate and exchange hundreds of cookies for the Christmas holidays.
Mart and Ed raised a beautiful family of six children who gave them eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her devotion to her children, Mart was committed to her friends, among them her "club girls" who played cards together for more than 60 years. She also enjoyed league bowling and personally organized the first women's golf league at Pine Hill Golf Course in 1979 where she played her last round of golf at the age of 84. Martha was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. She felt privileged to have traveled around the world, visiting 26 countries with her husband.
Martha was predeceased by her parents, and three brothers, Glenn, Ralph, and Wayne Mohr; by infant daughter Barbara and son Ronald at the age of 43. Surviving are her husband, Ed; sister, Janet Hills in Greenville; daughters, Linda Bradigan (Tim) and Pat Willis, both in Atlanta, Sheila Zuschlag (Dave) and Denise Loreno (Steve) in Greenville; son Durbin Loreno (Kim) in Saegertown; grandchildren Amy, Greg, Monica, Ed, Megan, Zachary, Tori, Lily, Michael, Andy, and Matt; and great grandchildren K.C., Rachel, Nicholas, Savannah, Brady, Eliza, Payton and Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael School, 85 N. High St., Greenville, PA 16125.
